Veolia Corporation acquired the Qualvista online biogas monitoring solution for its biogas plant at the Lapouyade landfill site near Bordeaux, France. The biogas operation feeds electricity to the national grid and provides heating for large tomato greenhouses in the area. The Qualvista system was installed in September 2018, initially for a two-month intensive evaluation period. During that time Veolia also tested other solutions for biogas quality monitoring, but found the Qualvista offering to be best overall and especially in terms of accuracy and reliability. The online dashboard that visualizes the gas quality and its changes in real-time was considered a useful tool in hands-on process information follow-up. The biogas measurement and analysis data on the main components and contaminants of the biogas, like siloxanes, enables Veolia to better monitor and steer its biogas production process and to more efficiently plan and carry out equipment and filtering media maintenance and replacement activities.
There are opportunities for Qualvista to propose its analyser in other landfill sites in France and potential to expand to other countries as well.
Antoine Lair, landfill biogas expert at Veolia, states: “We are pleased with the performance, quality and usability of the Qualvista biogas analyser. The continuous availability of real-time measurements provides us with new information on our process, with the kind of data that has not been available for us before when using only occasional sample tests.”
Says Juha Lauritsalo, CEO of Qualvista: “An endorsement from a global leader like Veolia gives us further proof of the quality and added value of our solution for our customers. We are looking forward to expanding our cooperation with Veolia in France and worldwide.”
